Anime Update 5

Post may contain spoilers so please read at your own expense.

During spring break, i broke my own record of  watching back to back anime marathons. I finished a few series and am still waiting on some to end. I will say that this season’s anime have over all been quite good for the most part. This post is gonna be a brief review depicting my thoughts on some of those shows.

Up first, one of Spring 2014’s top rated anime, Hamatora the animation.
‘The story revolves around “Minimum” or “minor miracle”—special hereditary powers discovered only in an extremely limited number of humans. Those who possess such powers are known as “Minimum Holders.”‘ -MAL

Vibrant, action packed, suspenseful, colorful, and equipped with awesome OST’s, Hamatora was definitely worth pulling an all-nighter for. The story revolves around a group of minimum holders, i.e the Hamatora that lend their investigative and security services to people in need. Somewhere around the curve, they ended up being involved in something they hadnt bargained for. My spot for favorite character in this series is tied between Nice-kun, the protagonist and Art kun, the former nice guy aka current anti hero aka potential actually an antagonist. Moral san, the official antagonist of this season, or Sharky as i like to call him, makes for a pretty cool psychotic freak but in the end he ends up being shot by Art kun. Who then proceeds to pull a gun at Nice. In relations to his sudden 180 turn, i have a few theories.

According to a friend of mine, Art was told by Sharky that Nice killed his younger brother and that led to Art pointing a gun at Nice. Its a probable theory but I just dont see Nice kun actually killing someone. Also i dont think the villain is Art kun’s brother cause his dead brother had a mole on his right cheek whereas Art kun has a mole on his Left cheek. And throughout the anime that remained constant. The only reason we even argue the possibility of twins is because of the way Art held his gun when he shot Sharky. I think Art had immortality minimum that he didnt know about because he hadnt died yet. Now that his death gave him the opportunity for his body to use his minimum im pretty sure he’s either being used or he’s become corrupted with power or something.Theres a chance Sharky knew about Art’s real minimum ability but decided not to tell him. I believe thats what he was whispering to him after Art kun collapsed from blood loss. Another theory involves Art kun being the villain all along just using Sharky as bait and Sharky’s assistant actually secretly working under Art kun to keep tabs on him.

Either way, i cant wait for the new season to air.. which might take a while considering how long SNK is taking to come up with another season. I know, i know.. not enough manga chapters or whatever. I still yearn to see Levi kun in action. Good for us though, it seems Funimation is about to debut the English dubbed version of Shingeki no Kyojin and they’ve already released a clip. Hey, a dubbed version is just another excuse for us Heichou fan girls to watch SNK all over again.. you know, for research purposes. How else are we gonna be able to tell the difference between the subbed and dubbed versions. Check out the clip!

Heichou!!! *squeals*
Moreover, the Attack on Titan live action movie is also in the works. It is currently in production and is rumored to be released sometime next year. Till then, i guess id have to be content with a new Shingeki no Kyojin manga chapter release on the 9th of every month.

While im really happy that Shingeki no Kyojin is getting a live action movie, im also very concerned about how well it will be executed. For one i hope the graphics are better than those in the Death note live action movie and that the cast involves people of non-asian races as according to the plot, the asian race is supposedly gone extinct with Mikasa being the last Japanese in the titan-verse. Though i wont mind it as much if they manage to at least pull off the graphics successfully. Personally, i believe it wouldve been better if they had waited to make the movie after the second season airs because SNK is already become a very well known series in a very very short amount of time. Another season and its value would have gone high enough for them to have been able to afford a collaboration with hollywood directors, resulting in a block buster with crazy good effects. Anyhow, lets just keep our fingers crossed for the team working hard on the movie. Gambatte everyone! * i hope i spelled that right*

‘Yato, a minor god, dreams to become the most revered deity in the world with big shrine and all. However, being a penniless god that he is, he has a long way to go and his shinki leaving him doesn’t help matter. Later, when he does his job, a high school girl named Hiyori Iki pushes him out of the way of a speeding bus; unaware of his status as deity.

Things get complicated when this incident triggers abnormality in Hiyori’s soul, causing her to make an Astral Projection whenever she falls unconscious. To turn herself back to normal, Hiyori must help Yato becoming a better god who can fix the problem, along with Yato’s new shinki, Yukine.’ -MAL

Another one of the top few anime that i watched. Noragami is, put in a nutshell, awesome. If Yato’s piercing blue eyes are not enough to force you to become enamored with this show, then the tsundere Yukine’s adorableness will. Not to mention, the female lead is one of the only few that i actually dont find annoying.. and thats a big deal. I actually like Hyori a lot. She’s sensible, motivated, adventurous, not to mention no nonsense and straight forward. I mean do you remember this part where she’s all like ‘I want to stay with you. I want to be with you forever’  and then a blushing Yato replies with ‘Ill grant that wish for five yen’ *adorable* I ship them so much! Give me the next season already!

‘Tada Banri, a newly admitted student at a private law school in Tokyo, found himself completely lost after the opening ceremony, trying to find his way to the freshman orientation. At that moment, he ran into another lost freshman from the same school, Yanagisawa Mitsuo, and they hit it off at once. Somehow arriving at their intended goal just on time, there appeared in front of the two a beautiful girl holding a bouquet of roses. The girl then whacked Mitsuo across the face with the bouquet and handed the flowers over to him. “Freshman, congratulations,” was all she said, and then left. The stylish, well dressed, perfect woman that had swung at Mitsuo was his childhood friend, Kaga Kouko. As children they had promised to marry each other one day, fulfilling their dreams. In order to escape from her, Mitsuo had gone out secretly and taken the examination for this well known private college, but now she showed up in the freshman orientation hall. She too had taken the law school entrance examination, catching up with him there.’ -MAL

Koko, girl i love your fashion sense but please. You gotta see a doctor. All that obsessing and getting possessive over your guy aint healthy. Its called co dependency. Also you can get kinda annoying at times. Personally i favored Linda over Koko for Banri. Some people disagree saying that she had her chance and that she shouldve told him bla bla bla but heres the thing. If the person that loved you loses their memories and you tell them that they used to be in love with you, that will put them under a lot of pressure to fall in love with you and they might forced themselves to have feelings for you. Love takes time to develop on its own, as it should. It should not be forced. Linda didnt tell Banri about their past because she wanted them to start again as friends so that what ever feelings they develop will be genuine. Too bad Koko came into the picture and no matter how badly you ship KokoxBanri, you have to respect Linda for the fact that she stopped persuing Banri in respect of his and Koko’s relationship. She was mature enough to realize when her chance with Banri ended and was simply making sure of his well being. It wasnt her fault that Banri developed some kind of dual personality. That wouldnt have happened n the first place if Banri had been more accepting of his past and investigated about it. He would either have come to a closure or decided to revert back. His choice really.

Anyway, im glad Koko and he ended together. I wish they had spent more time developing the Linda and Mitsuo couple as i think they could both do well with each other. But most of all, i ship 2d kun with Chinami san. In my opinion 2D kun was the most entertaining  and least annoying character and though i feel bad for Chinami, i seriously think she made a stupid mistake by playing too hard to get even though she liked the guy that proposed to her. So Chinami and 2D kun all the way!! The special appearance by Nana is also one of the best parts of this show.

Steins; Gate. Yes, i know. This one was long overdue. But i have a personal rule to try to avoid watching an anime until its finished because the one week waiting period for the next episode to be released is torture to me. Unfortunately, due to this self serving principle, some really good anime sometimes get swept under the rug and i dont get to watch them for a long long time. *As is currently the case with Zetsuen no Tempest among a few.. okay, many others*

‘Steins;Gate is set in the summer of 2010, approximately one year after the events that took place in Chaos;Head, in Akihabara.
Steins;Gate is about a group of friends who have customized their microwave into a device that can send text messages to the past. As they perform different experiments, an organization named SERN, who has been doing their own research on time travel, tracks them down and now the characters have to find a way to avoid being captured by them.’ -MAL

Well, ill admit i didnt expect much from the looks of the first few episodes. It was funny and had its moments but i didnt totally get into it until Mayuri died the first time. That was when it pulled an about turn and got all crazy and stuff. I remember feeling so overwhelmed for the poor protagonist that i screamed at the laptop screen in the dead of the night, which earned me a lot of embarrassment in turn. The only part i didnt like about this anime was when they forced a little bit of fan-service on the audience with the Moeka and Okabe kiss scene. Even for fan-service it looked rather painful and unnatural. Nevertheless, you cant tell how serious and dramatic it gets from the first few episodes but stick with it. Its definitely worth a watch. And while youre at it, do try the series Robotics; Notes afterwards. Im hearing a lot of good things about it and am in the process of watching it right now so a review is coming soon.

Steins; Gate Burdened Domain of Deja Vu. The Steins; Gate movie.

‘The film takes place one year after the events of the anime series. After going through a painstaking journey across multiple “World Lines” due to the invention of “D-Mail,” text messages that can be sent to the past, Rintarou Okabe has assumedly landed in the “Steins Gate” World Line, in which none of his friends would have to die and a future ruled by SERN due to the invention of a time machine no longer exists. However, Rintarou soon starts feeling the side effects of his constant time traveling across multiple World Lines, which soon builds up and causes Rintarou to suddenly vanish from existence, with only Kurisu Makise, the girl who he had saved thanks to his efforts, remembering him through déjà vu. It is now up to Kurisu to find a way to get Rintarou back.’- MAL

Finally! Kurisu gets her time to shine and save Okabe this time around. I was very concerned for how things were going to end with her trying over and over again to save Okabe but im glad how it all went down. Try it once youve finished watching the series.

‘Ryuko Matoi is a vagrant school girl traveling from place to place searching for clues to the truth behind her father’s death—the “woman with the scissor blade.” The journey has led Ryuko to Honnouji Academy.
Honnouji Academy—where an elite group of students is granted superhuman power by their special uniforms called the “Goku uniform.” With the power of the uniform, the student body president, Satsuki Kiryuin rules the students with unquestioned power and fear.
Satsuki holds the secret to the “scissor blade” and Ryuko confronts Satsuki to gain information but… Was their encounter a mere coincidence or fate? The clash between the two will soon consume the whole academy!’ -MAL

Kill la kill aka the mother of all roller coaster rides at six flags roller coaster ride. Dont blink for a moment if you have any hopes of keeping up with this anime. Truly spontaneous and action packed. Kill la kill will have you spilling your guts out laughing. Plus that Senketsu Kamui outfit of her’s is totally bad arse. Infact, i intend to cosplay in it someday.. that is, of course after modifying it for the sake of modesty.

‘Raku Ichijou is an average high school student. He also happens to be the sole heir to the head of a Yakuza Family called the Shuei-gumi. Ten years ago, Raku made a promise… a secret promise with a girl he met. They promised one another that they will “get married when they reunite”. Since then, Raku never let go of the pendant the girl gave him.

Then one day, a beautiful girl named Chitoge Kirisaki transfers into Raku’s class. Their chemistry was more than off. There was not a moment where they were not fighting. But by a weird turn of events, Raku and Chitoge agree to become fake lovers. Although his heart is really interested in his classmate Kosaki Onodera, Raku must continue pretending to be Chitoge’s boyfriend.’ -MAL

Let me tell you straight. I dont like harem anime. I cant stand them mostly because the protagonist is always such a dense, clueless character that cant figure out how to make up his mind. Nisekoi, however, is an exception. Raku actually is a like able character. He’s considerate, funny, not to mention a man of his word. Who even remembers a promise they made ten years ago anyway? Nevertheless, aside from the distracting art style, i find this anime tolerable.. sometimes even amusing. But its still a harem anime so it gets a 6 on a scale of 10 for me. Its an ongoing anime and is confirmed to end sometime during May 2014 so im looking forward to more plot twists and new characters.

The product reviews as well as make up looks will be up soon so please keep a look out. To part, i shall leave you with this picture of Levi Heichou being awesome as usual. See you around soon!
